YourVin.com is a free VIN decoder. Enter any 17-character vehicle identification number and it returns the factory build record, make, model, year, trim, engine, transmission and assembly plant, together with the open safety recall campaigns on file for that vehicle.
Where the data comes from
Decoding runs against vPIC, the Vehicle Product Information Catalog operated by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Manufacturers are legally required to file their VIN coding schemes with NHTSA under 49 CFR Part 565, which makes it the authoritative source for factory vehicle data. Recall results come from NHTSA's public recall database. We do not edit, enrich or resell either dataset.
How the site is funded
Advertising. Decoding is free, requires no account and has no lookup limits. VIN queries go directly from your browser to the NHTSA public API, so we never see or store the VINs you look up.
What this site is not
It is not a vehicle history report. Accident records, title brands and odometer history live in separate paid databases. Our comparison of a VIN decoder against a paid history report explains the difference and the order that saves you money.
Corrections
If a reference page here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Manufacturer VIN structures change, plants close and prefixes get reassigned, and we would rather hear about an error than leave it up. Write to info.litelabs@gmail.com.
